PRINCIPAL'S WELCOME

  featured image

Dear Parents and Carers,

The end of term has certainly been an enjoyable time for pupils at Muntham House School, with lots of end-of-year trips and activities taking place.  These have not only rewarded the pupils for their hard work and effort throughout the year but have also provided a valuable opportunity for pupils to build and develop their relationships with other pupils and staff.

I am proud of all of our pupils and how hard they have tried over the past school year; their progress and achievements have been truly remarkable.  Our year 11 pupils have been amazing, trying their absolute best in each of their exams.  I am sure that all pupils will receive the grades they deserve on results day, August 21st.

This summer will be a busy time, with numerous exciting building projects underway as part of our drive to lead the way in special education.  The new Muntham House Café will be opening, which will be run by our pupils as part of our vocational projects.  This project will provide our pupils with numerous life skills and valuable opportunities to experience.  The Muntham House College will also be opening in September, enabling the school to provide a greater range of additional vocational provision onsite for our pupils.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support and for working in partnership with the school.

I hope that you all have a lovely summer break.  We look forward to pupils returning to school on Tuesday, 2nd September, to start the next academic school year.

Best wishes,

PRIMARY - CIRCUS SKILLS WORKSHOP

On Wednesday, 18th June, our Primary pupils enjoyed fantastic Circus Skills workshops filled with energy, laughter, and learning. The boys had the chance to explore a range of exciting activities, including plate spinning, diablo, juggling, pogo sticks, and even stilt walking.

More than just fun, the workshop helped pupils strengthen their fine motor skills, including balance, coordination, and hand-eye coordination. It was a wonderful opportunity for the boys to step out of their comfort zones, try something new, and work together in a creative and supportive environment.

PRIMARY - END OF YEAR TRIPS

Within Primary, we had three exciting end-of-year trips for the classes this year. Hedgehogs and Squirrels had a full day out at Fisher’s Farm, where they got to enjoy the animals, the soft play and the rides. Mice and Foxes put on their adventure hats as they set off to Legoland for some thrill-seeking rides and to explore for the largest Lego set! Badgers, Deer and Rabbits went to Bognor Regis Butlins for some: Swimming and water slides, the arcade and some of the outside rides! Every class loved their trip, and it is always a highlight as we head into the summer.

PRIMARY - AMEX VISIT

Eight of our pupils had an unforgettable experience as they stepped into the world of professional football with a behind-the-scenes tour of The Amex, Brighton's home stadium. From walking through the players’ tunnel to standing pitch-side where their sporting heroes have played, the tour offered a unique glimpse into the life of a footballer. Pupils explored the changing rooms, media areas, trophy displays, and even got to sit in the managers' dugout — a highlight for many! The trip was not only thrilling for football fans but also an inspiring and educational day out. Guides shared fascinating facts about the club's history, the hard work behind match days, and the teamwork required both on and off the pitch. Pupils returned buzzing with excitement, having made fantastic memories and gained a new appreciation for the sport. A huge thank you to the stadium staff who made the visit possible.

1234

PRIMARY - BEACH TRIP

Both Lower and Upper Primary took advantage of the lovely June weather and headed down to Goring beach for a rewards day. This is something that had been popular in the past, and with the weather being on our side, Mr Marshall organised the fun days out. The pupils were out of class for an entire day, enjoying a day of splashing about in the sea, making sandcastles, and, most importantly, having ice cream!

12

PRIMARY - SUMMER FAYRE

What a fantastic day we had at this year’s Summer Fayre!

The sun was shining, the playground was buzzing, and our school community came together for a joyful afternoon filled with fun, laughter, and celebration. There was something for everyone — from bouncy castles and face painting to tombola stalls, splat the teacher, and plenty of sweet treats.

Our pupils especially loved the games and challenges, with prizes galore and plenty of cheering all around! This is our fourth year of the Primary Summer Fayre, and it has been another huge success. The pupils have done amazingly well in managing their class stalls and working together as a team.

A big thank you to Lawrence Hyde and his Year 9 mentors for all their hard work that went into making this day a success.

FOREST SCHOOL

We have had another fabulous half-term down in Forest School, being blessed again with some fantastic weather.

We began with 'Spider Week', learning some fascinating facts about spiders, creating our spider stones, and even making some webs for our spiders!  We then moved on to 'Pride' and thoroughly enjoyed a rainbow hunt around the site, with some of the boys creating their hunt.  During this week, we also enjoyed cooking apples covered in cinnamon and brown sugar on the campfire.

Then, we helped King Charles celebrate his birthday by creating our own wooden medals and natural bunting to decorate our area.

Finally, we had 'Insect Week' and did some lovely bug hunting, making our very own leaf insects.  Alongside all of this, we have made the most of our beautiful site during every session with lots of play and exploration - the fun we have had!  We are already looking forward to the Autumn Term and all that our area has to offer during the new season.

MATHS UPDATE

As we approach the end of a successful and rewarding academic year, the Maths Department would like to take a moment to celebrate the commitment, resilience and curiosity shown by our pupils across all year groups.

Our Year 11 pupils have navigated their GCSE exams with a calm, mature approach, and we couldn’t be prouder of the effort and focus they’ve demonstrated. Many have gone above and beyond by attending our Maths Academy sessions to reinforce their understanding, and we look forward to recognising these outstanding efforts at our upcoming Celebration Day.

Year 10 has built an excellent foundation for their final GCSE year. While the year ahead may feel challenging at times, they can feel confident knowing they have our full support every step of the way.

Year 9 are now leaving Key Stage 3 behind and stepping into the world of GCSEs. This is a crucial time to consolidate learning and develop the study habits and problem-solving skills that will help them flourish over the next two years.

Year 8 move into their final year of Key Stage 3, with a strong base to build upon. Year 7, no longer the “new kids,” have made a confident and enthusiastic start to their maths journey, and we’re now looking forward to welcoming a new cohort of Year 6 pupils as they transition to secondary school.

A highlight of the summer term has been our new Wednesday Project Days, allowing pupils to see Maths in Action and explore how mathematical concepts apply in the real world. These sessions have brought fresh energy into the week, helping pupils make meaningful connections between classroom learning and everyday life.

One particularly popular project saw pupils designing and building their own fairground games as part of their learning on probability. Using our own in-school currency—Muntham Moola—pupils calculated expected values, evaluated risk and reward, and discovered the classic casino truth: the house always wins! It was a brilliant, hands-on way to see maths theory come alive through practical application.

The recent good weather has also allowed us to take maths outside the classroom, offering pupils new environments to explore mathematical ideas through team challenges, investigations, and collaborative tasks. Whatever the weather, their tenacity and engagement have shone through.

As the year draws to a close, there's a real sense of pride in how far our pupils have come—and excitement for what lies ahead. We are incredibly grateful for their hard work and look forward to building on this momentum in the new academic year.

Wishing all our pupils a restful, well-deserved summer break.

DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY UPDATE

Year 8 pupils have been working in teams to design and build an electric go-kart. Pupils have been watching YouTube videos and using them to help develop their ideas. The project focuses on problem-solving, teamwork, and learning about electronics, gears, and mechanical components.

Each team has drawn some sketches and discussed their ideas, then worked toward the final solution. The pupils have found this project challenging, but they have learned a lot from it.

MECHANICS UPDATE

Our mechanics' pupils have been working very hard over the summer term to assemble and get the 1947 BSA project bike running, and it is beginning to show signs of life after around 30 years.

Pupils have managed to assemble the majority of the bike, as well as getting the engine to fire, although it is not yet running due to some timing issues.

This project has enabled pupils to apply problem-solving skills and learn how to decipher very old, poorly written workshop manuals in order to assemble what has potentially been the world's most challenging jigsaw puzzle.

Hopefully, this hard work will be continued after the summer break, and we will be able to give this old bike a new life.

FOOD TECH UPDATE

Now, as we head towards the summer holidays, activity in the Food Tech room has become more settled. The pupils have been choosing recipes to cook and have enjoyed doing so. Cooking Rewards has continued to be popular, and so has the Cooking Club, which meets on Wednesday afternoons from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.

The exams have finished, which means that Year 11 and MHC have been a lot happier and less stressed; this can be seen in the funny photo of Joe, particularly with the ‘Pot stickers’.

Will and Chris have been practising the art of cake decorating and making a very fine effort.

There is always a wide variety of recipes to choose from, so this term we have explored Japanese cooking with Sushi and Yaki Udon. These dishes were extremely popular, but the pupils themselves ate the majority of the food! We have also dabbled in Greece with Greek Chicken Pittas and over to Italy, making Pizzas.

One of our outstanding pupils, Charlie, has been utilising his ingenuity to create extraordinary recipes featuring cookie dough and caramel. These are just a few examples of the wonderful work that our pupils do daily. See if you can get them to cook for you in the Summer Holidays.

Wishing everyone a happy and caring Summer. We look forward to seeing you all again in September from Mrs Apicella and Mrs Barratt.

DUKE OF EDINBURGH UPDATE

eDofE

Over the summer, all participants should keep an eye on their eDofE profiles to see the assessor reports completed for their Skills, Physical, Volunteering and Expedition sections. Any issues with logging in to eDofE, please contact Mr Imbert ([email protected]).

10A

The second summer term has been non-stop for the outdoor education department, as there have been plenty of Duke of Edinburgh Award expeditions to push through.

After completing their practice in the South Downs, the Year 10s continued on the South Downs Way to complete their qualifying. This expedition saw a much more cohesive and collaborative team that met plenty of other DofE groups whilst out walking, and documented the trip on some disposable cameras

Mr Imbert was so impressed by the progress shown by Ben H, who is not only developing a love of the outdoors and hiking in the UK, but also has acquired newfound social skills, making him a great addition to the team around the campfires.

This marked the beginning of some very hot weather in the UK, so the group seized the opportunity to go for a wild swim near Lewes, a lovely trip.

11A

11A was the first of the two Gold expedition groups, and they ventured up to Cumbria to brave the Lake District. They had a wild camp planned for one of the nights and had put in some excellent preparation to make their final expedition a success. The only thing that didn’t fit with their plans was the weather! It was non-stop rain for the group, who had to get used to waking up wet, walking wet and going to sleep wet. After some understandable frustrations, the group rallied together. They were able to complete their expedition as a supportive group, finishing with a day in warm hostel beds and the sun shining. Mr Imbert felt quite emotional that it was the mark of the end of the Year 11s 3 3-year DofE journey, where they had started off camping at Pease Pottage in Year 9 and were now wild camping in the bleak weather.

11B

11B’s Gold expedition up the Lake District could not have been more different in weather compared to the other Year 11 group. They had scorching high temperatures and beautiful blue skies!

The group was extremely social along the way and met numerous hikers completing the Cumbria Way, as well as other DofE groups from around the country, all achieving different levels of their Award.

Mr Imbert was particularly impressed with the maturity and positivity shown by Lewis E, as well as the improved communication skills demonstrated by the whole team. Two years ago, both Year 11 groups completed their Bronze expedition, and for some, it was their first camping experience. Now, two years later, the groups hike like professionals and wild camp in the heights of the Lake District mountains. How far they have come.

The group documented the trip on GoPros, so Mr Imbert has plenty of ‘vlog’ footage to sift through over the Summer holidays. The group should keep an eye out for their emails when the files are uploaded and shared.

Explorer, Captain, Sherpa

To promote engagement and learning in the Duke of Edinburgh Award, a termly award scheme runs that rewards three outstanding pupils. Three awards consider all DofE participating pupils: the explorer award (a pupil who shows exceptional attitude to learning and pushes themselves to learn more); the captain award (a pupil who leads by example and takes on the roles given to them with conviction); and the sherpa award (a pupil who shows support of their fellow pupils either in lessons or on the expeditions).

Congratulations to the following pupils who have been awarded the titles for this term:

Ben – Explorer Award

Lewis – Captain Award

Sky – Sherpa Award

PHSE UPDATE

The summer term in PSHE has been an interesting one. With the topic of Relationships and Sex Education (RSE), our young people have engaged in lessons that have, at times, been embarrassing and confronting. I am exceptionally proud to report that the majority of pupils have managed this subject with maturity, respect and inclusivity. As parents and carers, you would have received a letter from me at the start of summer outlining each topic and the content we were covering in RSE lessons. I appreciate your support and understanding, especially as this subject has progressed considerably from when we were taught it.

PSHE and RSE became a compulsory subject in 2022 as a way to combat peer-on-peer abuse, where cases were dramatically increasing among young people. I am pleased to announce that from next year, we will be hosting a coffee morning for parents and carers before the summer term and RSE lessons commence. This will be your opportunity to understand the curriculum, see what will be taught and discussed in lessons, and to express any concerns or queries you may have. For now, though, have a safe and healthy summer break with your fabulous young people.

LIBRARY UPDATE

It’s the End of the Year!

Run!  Hide!  Cry!

…Just kidding!

It has been a busy year in the library, but one of the best. The pupils have laughed, played educational games, read magazines and books, swapped stories and worked out problems.

Throughout the year, we have been updating books and magazines to ensure that the information provided remains accurate, relevant, and in good condition. This involves regularly removing outdated or damaged materials and replacing them with newer, more accurate, and engaging resources. Pupils play a significant role in this by contributing to the library's wish list throughout the year.

We would like to share just some of the books that have been purchased throughout the year.

Year 7 Theodor Seuss Geisel, who was an American children's author, illustrator, animator, and cartoonist. He is known for his work writing and illustrating more than 60 books under the pen name Dr.Seuss.  If only you could bottle the laughter in the room when these classics are being read.

cat_in_the_hat.jpg

Year 8 Susan Lillian Townsend FRSL was an English writer and humourist whose work encompasses novels, plays and works of journalism. She was best known for creating the character Adrian Mole. Lots of our pupils can relate to Adrian.

Adrian_Mole.jpg

Year 9 Adam Blade is the name for a small collective of authors who write the bestselling series Beast Quest, as well as Adam Blade's other series: Team Hero, Beast Quest: New Blood and Space Wars. Over 14 million Beast Quest books have been sold. These books have been very popular at Muntham over the years.

Beast_Quest.jpg

Year 9 John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was an English writer and philologist. He was the author of the high fantasy works The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. From 1925 to 1945, Tolkien was the Rawlinson and Bosworth Professor of Anglo-Saxon at the University of Oxford and a Fellow of Pembroke College. One of our Year 9 pupils has taken on the huge challenge of reading these books and is really enjoying them.

Hobbit.jpg

Year 10 Books, particularly textbooks and assigned readings, are crucial for college courses because they provide structured and in-depth knowledge, enhance critical thinking skills, and support a deeper understanding of complex concepts. They serve as a foundation for academic learning, helping pupils grasp fundamental principles and develop their analytical abilities.

Heavy MetalWoodworkers ManualComplete HorticultureTechnical Training

Year 11 pupils typically read a variety of texts, including novels, plays, and non-fiction, to support their GCSE studies and broaden their literary horizons. This includes works commonly studied for GCSE English Literature, like Shakespeare (e.g., Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet), 19th-century novels (e.g., A Christmas Carol, Pride and Prejudice), and modern texts (e.g., An Inspector Calls). Additionally, they should engage with quality non-fiction and revision guides.

The Library and English department have all the resources needed to support pupils’ rights at their fingertips.

Have a great summer, everyone, and stay safe. From the Library Team

POST-16 UPDATE

The summer term is always a busy term, with exams and college courses being completed. This can be a very anxious time for many of our pupils, and once this is over, they can relax and enjoy the wonderful trips that the school has provided.

This week, two of our residential pupils in the POST-16 went out for a meal in a restaurant of their choosing. Matthew and Alfie opted to go to the Haldi, a local Indian restaurant.

It was the restaurant's banquet night, and the choices of food on offer were excellent. Alfie and Matthew were joined by their staff members, Mr Barrett and Miss Ferrier. It was nice to spend valuable time all together and chat about a successful year and the summer ahead.

We look forward to seeing Matthew and Alfie next September.

Have a lovely, safe, enjoyable summer.

HORTICULTURE UPDATE

The garden has been very productive this term, providing the chef with lots of wonderful fresh salad crops. The lettuce has been spectacular. The pupils have harvested the onions and garlic; these will be dried and stored for the Autumn term. We have planted a huge amount of cabbage, broccoli and kale; if the caterpillars stay away, we will have a good crop for the winter.

The highlight of the year has been designing and exhibiting at the RHS Hampton Court Flower Show. Six pupils from across the school came together and designed a Bug Barrel with the theme of "Wonderland".  I submitted our design, and we waited. We were all very excited to find that our design had been chosen to be built at the show. Only 20 were chosen from the 100+ submissions.

Stanley, Patrick, William, Noah, Ieuan, and Roscoe came up with some wonderful ideas, and with the help of Miss Coutes, Miss Dawkins, Mr Benton, and me, we planned, grew lots of plants, crocheted cakes, sandwiches, and built the brim in school. The parts were transported to Hampton Court on a very hot Saturday and built onto the barrel (In place by the RHS) by Miss Coutes, Miss Dawkins and me, ready for the show.

The pupils involved went to see their barrel in all of its glory at the Flower Show on the hottest day of the year, but we all had a blast, taking part in some forest school activities, meeting a Willow weaver who makes all things willow on a very grand scale, the police and some other exhibitors who had made beautiful gardens. Everyone was willing to chat to the pupils about their gardens or career opportunities for the future.

We purchased seeds, a tub trug wheelbarrow (Noah did a great deal with the salesman!) and ice cream.

The barrel is now located in our school garden for everyone to see.

All the pupils who come to the garden have enjoyed the green space to relax, learn and observe changes through the seasons. I am looking forward to our next project. Whatever that may be. Have a wonderful summer and take advantage of some green space if you can.

SPORT ACADEMIES

Basketball Academy

Basketball has been firing on all cylinders this half term, with some fantastic talent on display!  We have been working hard on a lot of one-on-one skills and then applying them to a match situation.  The sessions have been quite complicated; however, I have been super impressed with the effort that has been on display throughout!

If you are interested in your pupils attending, please email [email protected] to sign up.

Football Academy

We have had another successful term in the football academy, culminating in a great end to a brilliant year. The players have been working on control and possession, where they have been introduced to different possession-based games and have learned to understand controlling a game with possession of the ball. Well done to all the pupils who have attended the Football Academy this year.

We look forward to welcoming them back next academic year. We will be releasing the dates for the Football Academy next academic year.

If you are interested in your pupils attending, please email [email protected] to sign up.

Rugby Academy

I want to start by thanking all the parents who have supported their child's attendance this year. It wouldn't have been possible to achieve so much without your child's involvement. We are finishing the year with a final match of touch rugby against a local mainstream school, which will hopefully demonstrate our progress. This school has already agreed to host us for a full-contact 7-a-side game next school year. So, we will start focusing on contact within rugby from September, as the children are leading this initiative, as they have expressed that this is something they want. We might also consider splitting the rugby session into key stages, as children are officially allowed to play up one year if deemed safe. This will allow us to make more individualised progress and make it more meaningful for your child. If your child hasn't given Rugby a try yet, please encourage them to give it a go next season, as many young people have undiscovered talents. Rugby is a very inclusive sport made for all shapes and sizes. Also, a big thank you to Mr Adams and Mr Gallear for supporting this year's rugby, learning a lot with the team, and keeping everyone enthused. We will be releasing the dates for the Rugby Academy next academic year.

If you have any questions or would like to register your child, please contact: [email protected]

Rugby Fixture vs Downlands Community School

We took our Key Stage 3 Touch Rugby team to Downlands Community School for a friendly Touch Rugby match. Downlands is a mainstream school based in Hassocks, West Sussex. The game was split into 3 20-minute segments. The Muntham team played fantastically well, and considering they are relatively new to Rugby, they outperformed any expectation we had. They came up against a very talented and experienced team, who it was clear had been playing Rugby for a long time. Muntham did not win the game, but there were many joyous moments, especially when one of our Year 7 pupils scored a try. The team has improved vastly over the year, and they should all be extremely proud of themselves. It was also impressive to see our SEMH pupils competing in a sport against Mainstream pupils. Our pupils behaved exceptionally well and adapted well to the new school surroundings.

Well done to our Year 11 pupils who have finished their exams and enjoyed their study leave. A special mention to the year 11 BTEC sport pupils who have all passed their course. Our Year 10 pupils have been exploring the rules of cricket and learning various batting and fielding tactics to gain an edge over their opponents—another well done to the BTEC Sport Year 10 pupils who have also passed their BTEC course.

Football Fixtures

New Barn Key Stage 4

On Tuesday, 8th July, New Barn invited us to a Football Tournament against other SEN schools. We were joined by Sunnydown, Manor Green, New Barn and Bensham Manor. Our Key Stage 4 team played well, and we managed to finish in 4th place, winning one game and drawing another. We had some pupils who were playing up a year against other year 11 pupils, and they played fantastically well. We want to thank New Barn for hosting and inviting us to use their brand-new astro turf for the tournament.

Pennthorpe Key Stage 3

Muntham House welcomed Pennthorpe School over for a KS3 friendly fixture this term. Pennthorpe is a private mainstream school based in West Sussex, and it was brilliant to see our pupils mix with and compete against mainstream pupils. A very even and competitive match was won in the end by Pennthorpe 3-1. A big shout-out must go to the Muntham goalkeeper, who made a lot of fantastic saves throughout the match.

BTEC Sport Pupil Refereeing

We want to congratulate one of our BTEC Sport pupils who has not only passed their BTEC Level 1 certificate in Sport but has also excelled in their Refereeing career. They are now a level 6 referee and have refereed step 4 men's football matches. Congratulations, as this pupil has been selected for the Hampshire FA specialist programme, where a select 20 aspiring referees attend to develop their game further.

St Georges

This year, Muntham House School qualified for the National SEN Football Tournament, hosted at St George's Park, the home of the England National teams. We took our team to Staffordshire the night before the tournament, and we stayed at the Hilton hotel, where the England players would also remain. The team enjoyed using the facilities, including the football pitches, the buffet food, and the swimming pool. The team was well-rested and ready to play the following day. Muntham House played against schools from the north and the Midlands in the regional tournament. Muntham also played against some familiar schools from the southern tournament: LVS Hassocks, St Edwards and West Heath. All together, there were 12 schools, and it was a very hot day. The players did brilliantly well to play 11 games in the heat. We faced some strong opponents, and we finished 5th in the tournament. A special mention to some of the year 9s we took on the tournament who were playing up and battled well against older pupils.

Primary Sports Day

Our Primary pupils participated in their sports day on 14th July. The pupils engaged in 7 different activities, including a sprint race, Penalty shootout, High Jump, Slip and slide and others. The pupils all did fantastically well and gave it their all in all the activities.

We then finished the morning with a visit from the ice cream van. All the pupils received a medal for all their hard work during the day. Well done to all the pupils!

Secondary Sports Day

Our Secondary pupils had their sports day on 16th July. The pupils engaged in ten different activities. This year, we had some new events, including the Rugby time trial, the Vertical jump, and sprint timing gates. The pupils competed in their tutor groups and earned points if they finished 1st, 2nd or 3rd in the events. We then had overall winners who earned gold, silver and bronze medals. There was also a sportsmanship medal, awarded to one person in each class who demonstrated great sportsmanship throughout the day. The pupils were fantastic on the day, and all engaged well, trying their hardest in all the activities.

We had a visit from the ice cream van, allowing pupils to choose an ice cream. Well done to all the pupils!

As we come to the end of another active and exciting half term, we’re delighted to share what pupils have been learning in PE through our focus on Dodgeball and Handball. Students have loved the energy and excitement that dodgeball brings. Over the weeks, they have:

  • Developed key skills such as dodging, throwing, and catching
  • Learned about team tactics and the importance of fair play

Handball has introduced pupils to a new sport that combines elements of basketball and football. Pupils have:

  • Practised passing, dribbling, and shooting with control and accuracy
  • Improved their movement off the ball and spatial awareness
  • Played in small-sided games to apply skills in a match situation. Throughout both sports, we've seen fantastic progress in pupils’ confidence, teamwork, and communication on the court. IMG_1816.jpeg

HEVER FLOOR UPDATE

The theme has been transitions for our young people, all of who are moving on from Hever floor to Bodiam floor, Some of our young people have been on Hever floor with us for a very long time so this has been quite a long transitional process to make sure each young person manages this as well as can be expected and is as supported as much as they need individually.

Hever floor has enjoyed trips to the beach, strawberry picking, Arundel Lido, cinema trips, and lots of picnics and water fights to beat the heat! Many of these activities have been with Bodiam floor to enable our young people to get to know their new peers and staff on their new floor.

We have celebrated the end of the school year and the end of an era for our young people at Hever with a trip to Chessington and a lovely meal at Smith and Western.

We wish our Hever leavers all the best in their new adventures on the Bodiam floor.

BODIAM FLOOR UPDATE

What a term we've had- and we were truly blessed with beautiful weather throughout!

We have made the most of every opportunity to get outdoors, explore, and, most importantly, have fun. There has been a great deal of activity, and we are excited to share some of our highlights with you.

One of the most popular activities this term was Strawberry picking. The pupils loved selecting their own strawberries straight from the field and even enjoyed a relaxing tractor ride around the farm. Back at school, we baked a delicious Victoria sponge cake, generously filled with fresh strawberries and cream, which was enjoyed by all.

We also had a fantastic trip to the Cinema to see How to Train Your Dragon, which was a lovely evening out and a chance to relax together. The pupils love Fantasy films and always enjoy them.

The beach was a frequent destination this term, and we made the most of the sunshine. Whether it was paddling in the sea, enjoying a picnic or fish and chips, or racing RC cars across the stones and sand, the boys had a brilliant time. On another visit, with the tide out, they spent quite a while playing in the tide pools, hoping to find some little crabs. The pupils were so relaxed and were enjoying each other’s company.

The pupils thrive outdoors and had so much fun riding their bikes around the school grounds, building confidence and making memories along the way.

To top it all off, we ended the term with two unforgettable trips, one to Thorpe Park and another to Legoland. Both were filled with excitement and laughter as the pupils braved the biggest rides and saved the water rides for last.

For a quiet time, the pupils enjoyed some of their favourite board games, such as Monopoly and Guess Who, as well as card games like Uno and one or two competitive games of Chess.

We also had the pleasure of welcoming some of the pupils from Hever Floor as they began their transition to Bodiam in preparation for the start of the new school year in September. It’s been a pleasure getting to know them and sharing experiences together.

ARUNDEL FLOOR UPDATE

As we draw the curtain on another academic year, it is with great pride and a touch of nostalgia that we reflect on the journey our Year 11 pupils have completed. This term has been a meaningful and memorable one, filled with growth, milestones, and a well-deserved celebration to mark the end of their secondary school chapter.

To celebrate the culmination of their exams and the incredible efforts they made throughout the year, our Year 11 pupils were treated to a special night out at a local Turkish restaurant. The evening was a true highlight, filled with laughter, delicious food, and plenty of shared memories. Pupils enjoyed everything from freshly grilled calamari to meaty mixed grills, and the joy on their faces reflected how far they’ve come. It was a final moment to relax together as a year group, and the atmosphere was full of gratitude, friendship, and accomplishment.

This term, in particular, has highlighted the resilience, ambition, and maturity of our Year 11 pupils. From navigating their GCSE exams with focus and determination to participating in enrichment activities, sports, and house events, they have shown what it means to be leaders within the school community.

Staff have consistently praised this cohort for their camaraderie, kindness to younger pupils, and commitment to both personal and academic development. It has been a pleasure watching them grow into thoughtful, capable young people, ready to embark on the next stage of their journey.

As some prepare to continue into Post-16 and others take exciting steps elsewhere, we want every pupil to know how proud we are of them. The friendships forged, the lessons learned, and the memories made here will stay with them for years to come.

We wish all our Year 11 pupils a restful summer and the very best in the adventures that await. Whether they return to us in the autumn or take new paths, they will always be a cherished part of our school community.

GOVERNORS UPDATE

Governors welcomed a number of new faces to the board. At the beginning of the school year, Mr Chris Benton was elected by the teaching staff as a governor. Later, we were joined by Mrs Emma Castle as parent governor, Mr Paul Dungate, a lawyer, and Mrs Rima Bist, an education expert.

As a board, we met on six occasions, including a joint meeting with the school's senior management team to develop a longer-term strategic plan for the school. We also regularly met with staff in our three sub-committees: Education, Care and Welfare, and Resources.

Whenever the opportunity arises, we try to meet with pupils, parents/carers and staff, especially at events such as the Christmas and end-of-year performances. Please look out for us at those events, and feel free to come and talk to us.

In my first year as Chair of Governors, I have visited staff and pupils in all five key stages; been welcomed to dinner on two of the boarding floors; and visited our amazing Therapy Centre. I have been very impressed with all I have seen and with the friendly welcome I always received.

The governors would like to thank Mr Anderson and his entire team for going the extra mile to make Muntham House a flagship school for Inclusion, as reflected in the excellent Ofsted reports on both education and care received during the year.

Mike Kipling, Chair of Governors

A THANK YOU!!

A heartfelt thank you after 32 Years....

As I prepare to retire after 32 unforgettable years at Muntham House School. I want to take a moment to express my deepest heartfelt thanks to all the families I've had the privilege of working with, past and present.

Supporting your children, watching them grow, and walking alongside your families through challenges and triumphs has been one of the greatest honours of my life. Each child I have met has left a lasting impression on me, and each family has taught me something about resilience, compassion, and the power of community.

To every parent and carer who trusted me to be part of your child's journey, thank you. Thank you for your partnership, patience, strength, and belief in what's possible. It has been a privilege to support you and your incredible children.

As I step into retirement, I carry with me 32 years of memories, lessons and joy. I leave full of gratitude, knowing that I have been part of something significant.

With love,

Michelle Wright
